I’m not sure what to write here to be honest becasue I’m flabbergasted. Maybe you should turn look at the service the other way around. Keep the free service and all it users but set up a seperate billing system for those people who need a service they pay for, there’s clearly a market!

That way you keep the current users happy and have the chance to upsell some of them too. Along with attracting the ones who are willing to pay.

Sounds like a great way of having your cake and eating it to me.

I have read this post. This is very much true. Even I own a blog account on video conferencing. Video conferencing is indeed a great innovation in technology and communications. One day video conferencing will be like an ordinary house-hold item in the next 5-10 years.I will mention your post in my blog.

I agree 100 percent. There are some meetings which must be done face to face.

My contention is that by using technology to remove the need to travel to those which don’t have to be held in person, there is more time to dedicate to important face to face meetings such as the ones you allude to.

Meetings held by phone and web will never be able to replace all face to face meetings, but they can replace a large proportion of them. I know because I meet this way several times a day.

The funny thing about “balance” is that it applies to client relationships as much as our own “work/life” setting.

I too love to hang up the phone and head into the living room for a round of trains with my little one. But sometimes I need to be face to face with a client, and they need to not only hear but see and feel me understanding their unique challenges.

This is a can versus should question - because I can conference remotely, should I be doing it in all situations? I think the answer remains “no”, at least in this day and age.

I use conference calling 3 or 4 times a day, if I had to travel to meet people each time I would have to give up my home life!
